Joint Base Lewis-McChord Air Expo 2012: Part 1

July 22, 2012

You, your mom, and I attended the JBLM 2012 Air Expo this past weekend. The air show was held at McChord Field just south of Tacoma, WA. This was the first airshow that you have attended and my first airshow in 20+ years. Your uncle ‘C’, aunt ‘M’, and your cousin ‘L’ also attended. It was somewhat overcast in the morning but the skies cleared around lunch time and there were no weather related restrictions imposed on the pilots. Even though the event was free, we paid for box seats in the Flight Line Club. As there were so many restrictions placed on what we could bring into the event the choice to purchase tickets turned out to be a good one as food, drink, seating, and shade was all taken care of. Even then, I still managed to get a pretty good sunburn on my face as I was out in the sun all day taking pictures. The size of the crowd was amazing. There were so many people by the time we finally got into the main gate that we skipped looking at all of the planes on display and just went straight to flight-line area. Once you got some fluids in you settled right in and behaved wonderfully for the remainder of the day. The flying part of the show lasted from 10:30am until 4:00pm. We all had a really great time!! Even the next day you kept saying “that big grey plane was sneaking on us” (in reference to the B1-B flight and the low cloud cover at the time). We saw three different bombers actually flying (B1-B, B29, and B2) at this show. Absolutely, AMAZING!!!!

Here are some of the pics I captured (this is the first of three different posts due to the number of images)…
